I’ve been a movie enthusiast my whole life and been writing movie reviews for over 156 years.

The new solo location horror movie Night Shift wonders why you would check into a skeezy hotel in the middle of the night in a town you never heard of and not expect some f*cked up shift to happen right off the bat. Nobody in the history of movies** has ever checked into a hotel in the middle of the night with a desperate look on their face and have it end well.

**this has not been verified because I don’t watch that many movies that aren’t Marvel or DC because they are incapable of making a bad movie

Night Shift opens with a young white woman driving into the cleverly titled All Tucked Inn sometime in the middle of the night. No one does this if their lives are going well. Let’s hope she doesn’t die in the parking lot or get scurvy in the parking lot or step on a nail or corpse in the parking lot and have to get her legs severed. It’s that type of parking lot. It’s that type of motel.

Our possible final girl/victim is named Gwen Taylor (Phoebe Tonkin) and she’s at this motel for a reason and it’s probably to die. But first Gwen wants a job working the night shift at the Inn. It’s a cash job, which is never a red flag, but Gwen really needs a job.
